Explore the historic collection of artwork and artifacts acquired by the American Red Cross through their work in disaster relief, preparedness, blood services and the Geneva Conventions. Meet American Red Cross founder Clara Barton and some of the other people, past and present, who have volunteered and worked for the world's largest humanitarian organization. Red Cross Square, a tranquil haven just west of the White House, is a full city block bordered by 17th, 18th and D and E Streets, containing three white marble buildings and commemorative sculptures set with its peaceful landscape. The headquarters building, A Memorial to the Women of the Civil War, is a National Historic Landmark.
